London School of Music offers introductory Music Theory lessons for small groups.  With the aim of providing you with the necessary tools to understand and apply the basic building blocks  behind your favourite pieces, we will also ensure that you can confidently begin to read and write music for your instrument or voice.  All lessons include hand-outs and practical exercises for you to try at home.  


Music Theory Lessons will cover:


  • The principles of music notation

  • Basic music reading and writing (treble and bass staff)

  • Rhythm and the most commonly used time signatures in both classical and contemporary music

  • Understanding tonality and key signatures (using flats and sharps)

  • The basics of harmony

  • Ear Training


All concepts are linked to specific existing known pieces to develop the fundamentals of musical analysis and gain an understanding of music history and its development.
